Care of horse bits

How to properly care for horse bits

  1. Cleaning after each use: After the horse has used the bit, it should be cleaned immediately. Use a soft brush to remove any feed residue and rinse the bit thoroughly with clean water.

  2. Regular deep cleaning: In addition to daily cleaning after use, it is important to perform a thorough deep cleaning regularly. To do this, the dentures can be soaked in warm soapy water and then cleaned thoroughly. Make sure to remove all residue.

  3. No aggressive cleaning agents: Use mild soap or special denture cleaners to avoid damaging the denture material. Aggressive cleaning agents can attack the surface and cause cracks.

  4. Rust protection: Bits are often made of high-quality materials such as stainless steel or Aurigan. However, they can rust, especially if they are not cleaned regularly. After cleaning, it is advisable to wipe the bit dry and, if necessary, treat it with a rust-protecting agent.

  5. Do not soak in solutions: Avoid soaking the dentures in aggressive solutions such as bleach or similar, as this can damage the material.

  6. Check for damage: Check the bit regularly for damage such as sharp edges, cracks or deformations. A damaged bit should be replaced immediately to prevent injury to the horse.

  7. Proper storage: Store the dentures in a dry place and avoid leaving them on damp surfaces. This will help reduce the formation of rust.

Remember that exact care requirements may vary depending on the material of the bit, so always read the manufacturer's specific recommendations to ensure you are taking optimal care of your horse's bit.
