• How often should you wash the saddle pads?
Alpaca wool is naturally antibacterial and does not need to be washed frequently. Depending on the intensity of use, you will notice when the wool feels clammy and is no longer fluffy. This may be once a month or once a quarter, depending on how much the horse sweats and how often the pad is used (daily for several horses or just a few times a week). Please note that the alpaca fleece may wear out after a few weeks if the pad is used for very intensive training for several horses a day.

• Machine washable
The first time you wash the blanket protector, it should only be washed at 20 degrees on the wool cycle. This will prevent the cotton from shrinking (it is made of pure cotton on the outside and in the filling). Please only use mild detergent (for example for cashmere). It can be washed at 30 degrees every time you wash it. Please note that heat and friction cause wool to felt. It is therefore important to turn off the spin cycle on the wool cycle. You should not use a special detergent for lambskin, as this may contain lanolin. Alpaca wool is free of lanolin (wool fat) and is therefore suitable for allergy sufferers. Please fold it up and place it in the machine with the fine alpaca fleece facing inwards so that the fleece does not rub against the drum of the washing machine during the rotation.

• Care after washing
After the machine, the alpaca fleece saddle pad will dry quickly because the structure of the fibers is so fine and light. To do this, pull the pad into shape and lay it unfolded to dry, or hang it up to dry with the spinal canal in the middle. Ideally, do not expose it to direct sunlight. When it is completely dry, the fleece can be loosened/fluffed up a little by hand.

• Can the alpaca fleece be combed?
The fine alpaca fleece underside can be brushed with a medium-strength horse brush, for example if a lot of winter fur has collected in it. However, you should never use a comb or brush with a hook, as this could destroy the woven structure. Ideally, you should fluff up the fleece a little with your fingers or beat it out.
